Oriel Singers: Previous Engagements

The Oriel Singers have sung all over the country at a variety of locations including Cathedrals, Churches, Art Galleries and Race Courses!

We have sung at most of the Cathedrals in the Northwest, including Liverpool, Liverpool Metropolitan & Blackburn. In August 2005, we recorded a programme for BBC Radio Merseyside in Chester Cathedral.

The Choir has sung for the Deputy Prime Minister at Aintree Racecourse as well as singing for a number of Civic Events at various City buildings including Liverpool’s spectacular Walker Gallery, the Tate Liverpool and the Williamson Art Gallery.

In Recent years, the choir has performed at a number of National Trust properties in the Northwest including Speke Hall and a fireside Christmas concert at Rufford Old Hall in Lancashire.

The Oriel Singers have a longstanding relationship with the Damon Singers from Chesham in Bedfordshire. Every other year, the choirs visit each other for a weekend of music making. These concerts have yielded performances of works such as Faure’s Requiem and Vivaldi’s Gloria amongst others, as well as specially commissioned works. In 2008, Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year, the Damon Singers will be visiting Liverpool for another joint concert.

In May 2005, the choir gave a performance of Haydn’s ‘Mass in a Time of War’ accompanied by the South Liverpool Rehearsal Orchestra. A Similar concert will be staged again this year when the two ensembles join together for a performance of Mozart’s ‘Coronation Mass’.

Also during the 2005/6 season, we had a weekend of singing at Carmel Priory in the Lake District; a fund raising concert for Zoe’s Place Hospice and a weekend ‘residency’, singing all of the services at Chester Cathedral.
